-- Global BC's News Hour, Friday May 2 2008Correction: Acquitted. I believe this was their second or third story, so it's very likely that thousands of viewers would have seen this inexcusable error. But, how many of the viewers noticed the spelling mistake? That's the problem: the average viewer is prone to accept what they see on a reputable news program to be the truth. The average viewer may not need to write the word acquitted any time soon, but when they do, will they spell it without a c? Or, unlike Global, will they first do a spellcheck? Or even crack open a dictionary?
